The Digital Ashes
The Digital Ashes (Les cendres du numérique) is a photojournalistic group thesis exploring the global journey of electrical and electronic waste between Europe and Africa, with a particular focus on Belgium and Ghana.
The project investigates what happens after the digital life of our devices ends — tracing the hidden infrastructures, informal economies, and human realities behind e-waste exportation and processing. Through field research and documentary photography, it reveals the contrast between technological consumption in Europe and its environmental and social impact in West Africa.
Developed between 2015 and 2017, the project resulted in a published photo book combining investigative journalism and visual storytelling. It was co-realized with Aline Tong, Juliette Heymans, François Witvrouw, and Sébastien Baillet.
